Clouds was a particularly site-specific artwork in the Newman Town Square designed to have a connection to the land and echoing its importance to local people. It actively demonstrates a traditional cultural story from the Traditional Owners, the Nyiyaparli people.
The piece has been created to resemble clouds that release a fine mist of water at regular intervals throughout the day during the hot months. This embodies a story passed from Nyiyaparli people to Martu for custodian (caring for country) purposes. The Cloud Rock story describes how the Nyiyaparli magic men and women could talk to the cloud rocks if rain was needed.
